Close-Up

'Close-Up' is a photographic study on the blooming and withering of blossoms.

The camera sweeps and caresses these objects, the close-range shots, the intended blurriness, try to bring forward the plants and blossoms delicate composition, subtle or flamboyant colouring, their extreme physicality and fragility. Fragments of ephemeral reality are transformed into abstracts to appear in a painterly quality. Defined curves, expressive colour combinations, surprising insights, luxurious arrangements and expressive arrangements lead into the sensual, secret world of blossoms and blooms. Flamboyant and subtle drama queens in their realm.

Flamboyant and subtle drama queens in their realm

The flowers appear to be organic-graphic elements on the page, prompting the viewer to ask questions about their larger forms, to “blur” the line between photography and compositional, poetic, abstract design. They are asking that the viewer be sensitive enough to look deeply at the images, to see the details included in the frame and to consider the ideas behind the work.

These imaginary worlds should remove the viewer from their commonly understood vantage points as its impossible to know where the photographer’s eye is in relationship to the subjects and lure the viewer into more surreal worlds. By compositionally combining layers of petals and emphasizing light and colour through selective focus, Yvonne aims to create compositions that promote feelings of delicacy and gracefulness. By moving and removing the context of the subjects the images are thought to become very abstract. The viewer shall be put in a position to speculate what and where it is they are seeing. Because of this, the images aim to evoke ideas around vantage point, perception, andimagination and therefor become indicators of larger stories.

Communicate ideas about nature

The photos strive to communicate ideas about the nature of this reality and the way it can blend with a mysterious dream reality. In this way there is a sense of silence, softness, and a fluid movement into alternate realities.
